What is interpreating?

Interpreting is the act of rendering a spoken or signed language to another language orally. A language interpreter is supposed to carefully interpret the meaning and the intent of the original message and transfer them to target language by maintaining the tone and the register.

There are three main types of interpreting: simultaneous, consecutive and sight translation. In simultaneous interpreting, interpreting is done at the same time while the speaker is speaking. In consecutive interpretation, interpreter starts interpreting once the speaker has stopped speaking. Sight translation is the process of reading a document and translating it orally.

Based on the physical setting an event is taking place in, interpreting can be performed onsite, such as in court hearings, business facilities, or online during web meetings and web conferences. Each setting requires different set of tools such as interpreting booths, audio systems or remote interpreting software.
